Class Descriptions: Sourdough Basics

Learn to bake sourdough bread! Different flavors of bread will be provided for participants to enjoy during class. We will begin the class by covering many of the health benefits of sourdough bread.

Participants will learn how to activate and care for a sourdough starter. We will then go through each of the steps of the bread-making process. Participants will have the opportunity to practice techniques like stretch and folds, coil folds, and shaping a loaf as well as how to include your favorite add-ins. We will also talk about ways to work around your busy schedule in order to make sourdough-making possible!

This class is designed for beginners or those that want to touch up on their sourdough bread making skills. It is designed to be interactive and hands-on. Each participant will take home two loaves of bread to bake at home, dehydrated starter, a glass jar, care instructions, a sample baking schedule and a bread recipe.

Those who would like to purchase "tools" will take home many of the tools needed to make sourdough including: two proofing baskets, a cleaning brush, a whisk, thermometer, bench scraper, dough scraper, bread lame and stencils. Please email Leigh directly to reserve and pay for your tool kit:

If you choose to bring your own tools you will need to bring: a proofing basket, a bench scraper and a bread lame. Everyone will need a dutch oven and kitchen scale at home in order to make and bake bread.

Due to the amount of time and preparation involved, this class is nonrefundable. You may transfer the class to another participant with at least 24-hour notice. The class will only be held with a minimum of 4 participants. If there are less, you will receive a full refund. Class size will be limited to 10 participants.

Recommended for ages: 16 w/registered adult or 18+
